Policy and Access

Prints can not be over 12 hours unless approved by the shop manager

When leaving a print unattended please fill out a Print form (located at the front desk) so that we know who the print belongs to.

After finishing this course you will be allowed to book and use the ender 3d printers when ever they are available.


WHAT IS FDM

FDM Fused Deposition Modeling or FFF Fused Filament Fabrication

FDM is the most common type of 3d printing and works by depositing melted filament material over a build platform layer by layer until you have a completed part. Much like a precise hot glue gun.


OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS

The process of getting a 3d file printed is as such

  1. 3d file- You can either make an 3d (.stl) file in a cad software or find one on sites such as thingiverse.com
  2. Slicer- A program used to converts 3d files to .gcode. It does this by cutting the 3d files into layers. Hence where the name slicer comes from
  3. 3d printer-The file is loaded onto the printer and their you go.
