Laser Cutting is a process in which a laser is used to vaporize a material in order to cut through the material, engrave the material or otherwise mark a material. This is done by focusing a high powered laser beam through a lens at a specific point, similar to focusing the sun through a magnifying glass, in order to create incredibly accurate and detailed lines.
Laser Cutting is generally the main function of the laser cutter. By cutting through materials including wood, paper, acrylic, cardboard, and more, the laser can be used to manufacture detailed and accurate parts. These parts could be works of art on their own, but are often used to assemble something more complex.
Laser Engraving involves removing a certain amount of surface material in order to create a mark on a given material. The level of contrast varies greatly from material to material, but most materials can be marked to some degree. While our current lasers are not ideal for marking metal, certain processes can be used in order to get single value marks.
